🎵 This one for a slow Saturday. You're welcome.
Good morning.
Mark Zuckerberg bought a 440-acre castle estate in Ireland this week. Meanwhile, the rest of us are paying 40% more for sugar. Different lives, same planet.

Kashmir's First Women-led Birding Network brought back 1 Lakh Birds

The Salim Ali Birdwatchers Network in Kashmir started in January 2025 with 15 women and girls who had been working individually on conservation for years.
They came together under one platform to protect the wetlands where migratory birds from Siberia, Central Asia, and Northern Europe land every winter.
Clean-ups, school visits, anti-poaching drives - within a year, nearly 1 lakh migratory birds returned to Hokersar wetland. Their youngest member, 13-year-old Alimah Hamid, is writing a bird guide for school students.
Most good things start with someone deciding to show up when nobody is watching.

What's Stirring
🍬 Sugar Prices Spiked 40%. India is Importing for the First Time in a Decade.

Image generated through AI
What happened? Domestic sugar prices have surged nearly 40% in two months. Wholesale prices in Kolhapur, a key trading hub, hit a record ₹5,350 per 100 kg.
The government has responded with three simultaneous measures: allowing 10 lakh tonnes of duty-free raw sugar imports until October 31, imposing stock limits on dealers, and banning sugar exports. Read More →
Why is this happening? Lower domestic production, tightening supplies ahead of the festival season (August to November), and speculative stocking by large buyers. India is the world's largest sugar consumer, and demand spikes every year around Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, and Diwali.
What changes for you? The import window may not bring immediate price relief - imported raw sugar still needs refining, and costs depend on global prices, freight, and processing. But the stock limits on large buyers (capped at 15 days of consumption from September 1) are designed to prevent hoarding. Full stock limit details →
Why it matters: This is the first time in nearly a decade that India has opened a duty-free import window for sugar. It signals that domestic supplies alone cannot hold prices through the festival season.
Your mithai bill this Diwali will depend on how fast these measures work.

💡 Life Tip
When you're stuck, change the question.
Instead of: "How do I finish this?"
Ask: "What is the smallest part of this I can finish?"
It changes a vague problem into something concrete.
