🎧 Start your Tuesday with this banger: Listen here

Good morning.

Here is something to chew on over your first cup of tea: when did you last check what your EMI costs you each month? Wednesday's RBI decision could nudge that number, and today's main story explains why. Let’s begin.

😊 Feels Good

🐘 255 elephants, and a little help from tech

Between January and September, Northeast Frontier Railway says it helped save 255 elephants from train collisions using AI alerts, speed restrictions and “Plan Bee”, which plays amplified honeybee sounds to keep elephants away from risky stretches of track.

The AI system can detect elephant movement near railway lines and warn crews in time. A small win for the elephants, and a pretty big one for everyone working to make these tracks safer.

What's Stirring

💸 Will your EMI get more expensive?

The RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee is meeting this week, and economists increasingly expect it to raise the repo rate by 0.25 percentage points to 5.5%.

Why now?
Inflation has started climbing again. Retail inflation rose to 4.82% in August, while higher crude oil prices, food prices and a weaker rupee are adding pressure.

The RBI raises interest rates when it wants to slow borrowing and spending, which can help keep prices from rising too quickly.

What does that mean for you?
If banks pass on the increase, floating-rate home loans and other borrowing could gradually become more expensive. On the other hand, savers could eventually see slightly better returns on some deposits.

So Wednesday’s RBI announcement is worth watching even if you never follow monetary policy. It could find its way into your monthly budget.
