Nehemiah Turner is 11. Two years ago, he started reading aloud to shelter dogs and cats - a calm voice helps anxious animals settle, which makes them more likely to get adopted.

He is now the first child to log 100 volunteer hours. That is 100 afternoons spent beside a kennel, reading to animals who had nobody else showing up for them.

🌧 Monsoon went from Missing to Everywhere

After a slow start to July, the monsoon has turned fierce.

IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and several northeastern states.

Gujarat has been hit hardest, with Valsad recording close to 900mm in 24 hours. Red alerts are active in Jammu & Kashmir and the Amarnath Yatra is suspended. Flash floods and landslides remain the main risks through July 30.
