What happened?
The DCGI has approved Takeda's QDENGA - India's first ever dengue vaccine. It is cleared for individuals aged 4 to 60 and can be administered without prior screening or testing for past infection.
Why does it matter?
India accounts for nearly one-third of global dengue cases. The disease kills, hospitalises, and costs billions in lost productivity every year - yet until today, there was no approved vaccine for it in the country.
QDENGA has shown 84% protection against dengue hospitalisation over 4.5 years in trials involving 28,000+ participants across 19 studies.
What comes next?
Takeda has partnered with Indian manufacturer Biological E to expand production. Rollout details and pricing are yet to be announced - that is the next thing to watch. Read More →
