The Well Nobody Remembered Is Giving Water Again

As Bengaluru battles tanker queues and dry borewells, a stone well in Sampangiram Nagar has quietly become a daily water source again. The well - 300 years old, 40 feet deep - had been filled with plastic, silt, and years of garbage before SayTrees Environmental Trust stepped in to restore it in 2022.

58,000 Students Came to Study in India Last Year

What happened?
India's higher education institutions enrolled 58,134 foreign students from 173 countries in 2023-24 - an 18.9% jump from 2019-20. Nepal sent the most, at 24.1% of all foreign students. The UAE, US, Bangladesh, and Nigeria followed.

Where did they go?
Karnataka was the top destination, with 7,914 foreign students - narrowly ahead of Punjab. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu completed the top five.

What are they studying?
73.6% enrolled in undergraduate programmes. Women students grew from 16,512 to 20,839 over five years - one of the more encouraging trends in the data.

Why it matters:
